Women Who Saved Moses: Shiphrah & Puah

Series: The Women Who Saved Moses

February 09, 2025 | Rev. Brooke Heerwald Steiner

In the face of an angry and fearful king threatening the lives of the most vulnerable, two women had the courage to resist. They weren’t able to say no to his face, but they strategized about how to negate his horrible orders. Shiphrah and Puah were the names of two midwives who saved the lives of many Hebrew babies. We reflect on how their brave and courageous actions paved the way for Moses to grow up to be a liberator of thousands. What role do we play in God’s plan for liberation and freedom for all of God’s children?

Series Information

The brave ones are not always the names remembered or written down. Nevertheless, they make a big impact. Five different women took risks throughout his life to save him. Had it not been for them, Moses may never have been the remarkable leader that we are familiar with today. We will dive deep into the lives of these five women and discover their stories of courage and compassion.
