Series: Thrive: Investing and Sustaining
November 12, 2023 | Rev. Brooke Heerwald Steiner
We hear Jesus tell the story of three servants given a large amount of money. Two invested their money and one chose to bury his out of fear. A complicated story, to be sure, but it does reveal how there are different ways to view money and the responsibility that comes with it. Two were in sync with their master—they knew what he hoped for and why he would have given them such a gift. One was not in sync with his master and went down a different path. How can we align ourselves with the mission of God? How does this change how we view and interact with the gifts and resources given to us?
Series Information
Jesus talked about money and possessions more than any other topic. For four weeks, we’ll dive into how we can continue to invest our money into the values that we hold most dear. Why did Jesus care about money so much? What is the connection between our attitudes towards money and our spiritual life with God? What does it look like to use our money and possessions as tools to help build community, serve others, and stand for justice? We’ll hear Jesus’ teachings together and spend time reflecting on what we are each called to do in response.
