This second week of Advent, we will light the candle of peace. There is a timeless part of Advent in that it seems our world is always awaiting more peace. Whether that is peace in our own lives, peace in our country, peace across the world, all of us are hungry for more of it.

This beautiful refrain from the Christmas song O Holy Night will be our anthem for the season of Advent. There is much in our world to exhaust us—starting with our everyday lives of hustling and bustling, to and fro.

We wrap up our fall stewardship series, where we are celebrating all the wonderful ways God has blessed this faith community. We will hear Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount, where he taught us to invest in our hearts and not in earthly treasures.

This week all ages will worship together in the sanctuary, where we’ll hear the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. When one little boy says, “I can share my lunch,” they end up feeding thousands of people.

We hear Jesus tell the story of three servants given a large amount of money. Two invested their money and one chose to bury his out of fear. A complicated story, to be sure, but it does reveal how there are different ways to view money and the responsibility that comes with it.

This week we kick-off our fall stewardship series. What does it look like to invest in a community instead? When we invest in others, we often see how it benefits them AND us—it doesn’t hurt us.

This week we wrap up our worship series on spiritual types. Last, but certainly not least, are the Lovers. These are the people who can’t help but see beauty and create joy in life.

Mystic looks out the window at the still waters breathing deeply into Silence knowing that “showing up” Now to listen and wait on Spirit is essential for all. Fear meets Love. We are one in the Spirit. What happens to one happens to all. This is Truth. The world has a choice. God help us.

This week we’ll look at the spiritual type of the prophet. This is the least common type and possibly the most passionate. Prophets are committed to their causes and express their faith through concrete actions.

This week we begin a four-week exploration of different spiritual types, or tendencies. Are you a sage, prophet, lover, or mystic? Your spiritual type might give you and others clues about your preferences for connecting with God and with others.
