Social Justice on Broadway- Question?

Series: Questions of a Risen Jesus

April 30, 2023 | Social Justice Team

“Hair” was clearly intended to challenge the sensitivities of the time. To question the status quo. To question the hypocrisy of a society that espoused values of freedom, but forced young men to fight a war they did not believe in. The musical explores themes of peace, love, inclusion, and freedom while addressing issues of race, sexuality, war, discrimination, and environmental destruction. The songs in “Hair” ask a lot of questions. “Where do I go?” “How can people be so cruel?” and as simple as “Why is your hair so long?” Beneath the questions and the protests, there is a message of hope. A call to action. A plea to “Let the Sunshine In,” embrace each other, love each other and to seek a more just and equitable world.

Series Information

Throughout Lent, we examined different questions that arose in encounters with Jesus. This week and next, we'll examine two of the questions that Jesus himself asked after he was resurrected.
