Comfort My People

Series: The Weary World Rejoices

December 10, 2023 | Rev. Brooke Heerwald Steiner

This second week of Advent, we will light the candle of peace. There is a timeless part of Advent in that it seems our world is always awaiting more peace. Whether that is peace in our own lives, peace in our country, peace across the world, all of us are hungry for more of it. Isaiah offers us some comforting images of a strong and gentle God who leads and guides us as a shepherd guides their flock. God gathers the lambs into God’s lap—quite an endearing image for us as we seek a world of peace where all will feel God’s arms wrapped lovingly around them.

Series Information

We live in a weary world filled with people who are exhausted.  Tired from fighting, violence, anxiety, depression, poverty, and we aren't always sure what it means to be hopeful.  As we await the birth of Jesus, we'll hear the words of the prophets speaking to a weary world thousands of years ago.  Even amidst great turmoil and unrest, we can find a way to bring joy and hope into this world.
