The Blessing of Disability

Series: Celebrating Diversity: Encountering God in Disability

Summary

We begin our Lenten worship series by examining how we view disability. Do we pity those who are disabled? Do we see disability only as loss and misfortune? Can we see disability as a beautiful part of God’s creation? We hope to gain an appreciation for the wonders of disability that can coincide with the empathy we have for those who are in pain or suffering as a result of their disability. We’ll hear the story of how Jacob got his limp and how it marked him for the rest of his life as a sign of his blessings from God. We’ll challenge ourselves to recognize the way our lives are blessed by disability—in nature, in people, in ourselves.
