Special Earth Day Service
Series:
Summary
Our Racial Justice and Environmental Justice Teams have planned a special celebration of Earth Day for our worship service on Sunday. During worship, Sharon Lennartson with the Mendota Mdewakanton Sioux Community will share the story of her community’s protest of the re-route of Hwy. 55 in 1999. After the service, we have a tree-planting and a Native American pipe ceremony on our grounds. The tree we will plant is a sapling grafted from one of the four oak trees considered sacred by the Native community that were felled for the rerouting of the highway. We invite you attend this ceremony to help us celebrate our shared belief in protecting the Earth and creating a sustainable future.
