Beyond Words

We mark Pentecost Sunday by hearing again this miraculous and strange story of how people were able to hear and speak in different languages, each understanding one another. The meaning behind this story can be difficult to parse out (pun intended!) and yet is a major occurrence for the early Christian church. Sometimes, we have experiences that are hard to explain—encounters with the holy that seem odd to those outside it, but incredibly profound for those of us experiencing it.
