Social Justice

Educating, Listening, and Acting to Eliminate Injustice and Oppression

A main priority for our faith community is to make sure that we work towards justice in our community, state, nation and world. Our Social Justice Ministry aims to educate, listen, and act to eliminate injustice and oppression. We do this through providing resources and opportunities to learn, hosting events and discussions, sharing action tips for our congregation, and partnering with others who are already doing important work.

Subcommittees of the team focus on these five areas:

  1. Anti-racism
  2. Climate Justice
  3. Democracy
  4. Health Care
  5. Inclusion and Reconciling Ministries

The Social Justice Team holds "Conversations That Matter" to inform our congregation about important issues like systemic racial injustice and health care inequity. In order to reduce the church's carbon footprint, we led efforts to increase recycling and composting of waste and to add solar panels to the church roof.

fall focus: END gun violence

This fall, the Social Justice Ministry Team is challenging ourselves, and the congregation, to increase our awareness of and take an action step to address the issue of gun violence. At EUMC, we are a small enough church to know each other, to worship and grow spiritually together. And we are a big enough church to make a difference.

We encourage you to download the sample letters below to help you contact your state and local representatives. Our goal is to generate three contacts for every member of the congregation.

And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? - Micah 6:8
