Series: Sermon on the Mount
March 20, 2022
This week we will hear Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount, “Do not worry.” This always makes me laugh because it’s so ridiculously impossible for me not to worry. I imagine the disciples felt something similar, as their lives were much more challenging and dangerous than mine. But what if Jesus meant something different than being carefree? What if he meant that we should pay attention to the things that get our attention and concern? Maybe we spend too much time worrying on the regular aspects of our daily life—clothes, food, drink. What if we shifted that attention and concern to matters of God’s kingdom—justice, connection, peace, joy?
